Clinical Nutrition
The Clinical Nutrition department provides complete in-patient and out-patient services across all sites of the Niagara Health System.
Patients admitted to hospital are routinely screened to determine those at nutritional risk. Patients who require nutritional intervention are cared for by the dietitian who provides nutritional assessment, develops unique, individualized nutritional care plans relating to specific disease states and conditions, and ensures that nutritional needs/goals are met while in hospital. The dietitian provides counselling/education upon discharge for patients and their families.
Out-patient services provide preventative nutritional therapy and counselling services to members of the community upon a physician's referral.
Dietitians are an integral part of the Health Care Team and qualifications include:
- Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent in Nutrition
- One Year Post Graduate Internship from an Accredited Facility
- Registration with the College of Dietitians of Ontario
