Extended Care Unit
The NHS owns and operates a 75-bed long term care facility called the Extended Care Unit (ECU), located at Welland Hospital Site. A 40-bed Interim Long Term Care Unit opened in December 2005, adjacent to the ECU.
The ECU is legislated under the Nursing Home Act and is a member of the Ontario Nursing Home Association. Programs and services provided include nursing and medical care, recreation and restorative care, pharmaceutical care, dental care, foot care, spiritual and religious programs and volunteer programs. An active Residents' Council meets monthly to make decisions related to program and environmental issues as they apply to their Home. Laundry services, cable TV, hairdressing and barber services are also available to residents.
