Laboratory
The Laboratory Medicine Program offers 24-hour diagnostic testing availability at all NHS sites for treating emergency and routine hospital patients. Service is provided on-site, regionally and/or through referral.
A wide variety of laboratory services exist including Hematology, Coagulation, Clinical Chemistry, Surgical Pathology, Cytology, Autopsy Service and Transfusion Medicine. Microbiology Services are performed off-site by MDS and Public Health Laboratories. The Laboratories are licensed and inspected by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) and participate in Ontario Laboratory Accreditation.
Also available is the OnTraC program, a provincially-co-ordinated blood conservation program.
